AG House

Cammeray, Sydney, NSW, Australia - On Cammeraygal Land

AG house is set within Sydney’s highly restrictive Cammeray heritage conservation area. The new work seeks to unlock the potential of it’s prominent corner site while celebrating both the original cottages and local areas heritage in a new and interesting way. The interventions give the streetscape a sculptural backdrop amongst the established tree canopy.

The very tight and public site has much of its program concealed by its ‘big roof’ that covers the sunken ground floor and oasis back garden area. The big roof idea not only houses amenity but also provides shade and weather protection to the large aperture openings to its sunken gardens. This roof allows these openings to remain open in the rain which is a beautiful experience for the clients. The same gesture opens to the previously under utilised back yard which follows this same geometry of connection.

This project has unlocked this house site for a family and their teenage children and is now their ‘forever home.
